Have you ever had to build an address or location system from scratch?

If you’ve worked on KYC, onboarding, logistics, delivery zones, or address forms, you probably know the pain.

Country and state/region data are easy to find.

But once you need districts, LGAs, wards, municipalities, counties, constituencies, etc., things get messy.

You end up scraping government websites, copying data from Wikipedia, finding random CSVs, or maintaining your own administrative database.

I’ve faced this problem myself, and I’m considering building an open-source project called Geotiers.

The idea:

Country → State/Region → District/LGA → Ward/Municipality

But instead of just another JSON dump, Geotiers would provide:

🌍 Structured administrative hierarchy data

⚙️ CLI for generating database schemas

🌱 CLI for seeding a country’s data

🔌 Support for different frameworks and ORMs

Before I spend weekends building it, I want to know:

Is this a problem you’ve encountered too?

If you’ve worked with administrative or location data, I’d really appreciate your input. It takes just a few minutes:

If there’s enough interest, I’ll build it properly and open it up for contributions.
